For so long she’s been desperate to get her swimming bubble off, and and rid herself of the apparent shame of being the only ‘baby’ who still needed to wear one. She did it, finally, at the end of last year, and now I can barely keep up with her. It’s funny how all of a sudden, the penny drops and it all clicks into place.

Today I am grateful for her pride in swimming like a big kid.

Happy Birthday Darcy!

Today she is 4.

“My Best things are bath time, jumping on the trampoline, Cooper, watermelon, Mama and swimming. My Worst things are peas, the naughty corner, how the butcher smells, bugs and dog poo”

She makes me see the very best of things at the very worst of times, and I’d be simply lost without her.

And in her words, “Mama, look how clever you are! You grew your very own best friend right there in your tummy!!!”

The world is a better place because she’s in it.

She loves to help in the garden every single day. She’s on constant lookout for grubs or anything eating our precious veggies. When she finds them, she says sorry to each and every one before she squashes them. I adore her.

We were lucky enough to be taken to the circus today but our lovely circus friends from Perth, who are home here for Summer Holidays. (remember Harry’s best friend Colt? here, here and here). My kids thought it was the coolest thing ever that they got to stay in the tent after the show had finished, and go out and stand in the ring. Here’s Harry watching them set up for the next show.

January a Day Project 2014 :: Day Seven

Harry and Lily have been pretty much inseparable their entire lives. They are as thick of thieves, have pretty similar natures and personalities, and rarely argue. Darcy can sometimes be the third wheel, god love ‘er, and when the 3 of them play together, she is usually in charge of all games and their rules and/or contents. Up until quite recently, it was unusual to find the girls playing on their own, but lately you often find them quietly playing things that girls like to play, like princesses, or families, or tea parties. Or you might find them just like this, quietly chatting about who knows what, and Harry is no where to be seen. I find it interesting that the dynamics of the little triangle is changing as the age gap between the girls narrows.

I was focused on Lily when I took this, (as you can see Darcy’s a little out of focus, which is a shame) as I loved the way the light was catching her hair, and I’ll be honest, I didn’t really even notice Darcy until I downloaded the images. I just adore her expression and the way her little hand is reaching out and touching Lily’s arm. It says so much about her.

Yep. You’re gonna see a lot of this dog over the month! She has a paw in many a game, including this one, which saw Daisy the Rabbit (pictured) give birth on our driveway to a mouse called Rose wearing a dress. Andrew the Bear (also pictured), is believed to be the father.

Today I am grateful for driveway soap operas.

Today was hot. Like, I mean, really hot. The temperature gauge in my car said 49C, which is insane! Thats about 120F for my American friends. Crazy.

So the day was spend indoors, in the air conditioner, watching Harry Potter. In other words, an awesome day.

When it was cool enough to go outside and face the world, what els would you do but run under the sprinkler! This is a daily game here over summer holidays, but Darcy is always the last to want to come inside for dinner.

Today I am grateful for Harry Potter and air conditioners. I know thats shallow, but it was hot guys!!!!

January Photo a Day Project 2014 :: Day Three

One thing you’ll have to get used to is photos in my chook yard. It isn’t my first one and it certainly won’t be my last. It’s a big part of our day, especially since we have new Silkies, whom the kids just adore! So of an afternoon, after the heat of the day is fading, this is where you’ll find one or all three of my kids, loving on their chickens, with my old dog never far away, keeping an eye on things.

Today I am grateful for a little girl who sings to her chickens.
