Caravan of Destiny :: Week One & What the first week looks like

Well, we’ve been on the road for a week now, and it hasn’t been without its hiccups, but mostly its been amazing.

We embarked on this adventure for so many reasons, the main one being to spend more time together. Ben and I were sick of trudging through our days, filling them with work and ever increasing, unwanted stress, never spending quality time together as a family. Existing just to wake up each morning and do it all again. We knew something had to change, so we set about changing it.

We left a few weeks later than we wanted to, as I broke my finger and then got terribly sick, so we had to rush through Outback Queensland a little quicker than we wanted to, as we had bookings at Lawn Hill National Park. Thats where we are now, and it is one of the most amazing places I have ever been!

Here’s our first week in images. A week that comprised of ironing out wrinkles, lots and lots of driving, swimming under water falls, canoeing, hiking and Darcy need ing to find/use every public toilet possible over 2000km’s.

We also bought a DJI Phantom Quadcopter for our journey, which Ben has been practicing and getting better and better at using. Here is a quick video of the sorts of things we’ll be doing. Its very exciting.

This is filmed on an afternoon spent in Lawn Hill National Park on Harry’s Birthday. Not a single soul for miles and miles. A beautiful and spiritual place.

An idea over a year in the making.

It started as a whisper, quiet and unassuming, pushed to the back of my mind, surrounded by doubt and fear.

An idea that has become louder.

Grown restless.

An idea that started as a star in the sky.

A dream.

Now might be the time to make it come true…..

My 30 Days of Grateful

Last month I was inspired by my amazing friend Hailey from You Can’t be Serious to take on the 30 Days of Filming Project. Essentially it involved filming something that makes me happy every day for 30 days. I’ve been wanting to learn more about film making, and this came along at the very perfect time! I took my camera with me everywhere, and I’ll tell you something for nothing. Its hard. When I uploaded the first few days I felt quite nauseous watching my jagged shaky footage, thinking perhaps I had been filming on a boat! Did I have wine for breakfast and forget? I mean, how hard could it possibly be to keep a camera steady!! I do it every day with stills for goodness sake!! And don’t even get me started on the editing! I have a whole new found respect for people that do this everyday, provide the world with the beautiful and amazing videos we watch everyday on youtube and vimeo and they make it look easy.

Anyway. I loved this experience so much. And I’ll put my hand on my heart and say I’m hooked. I can’t WAIT to explore more and spend time getting better and more creative.

But for now, here is my very first little film. Its only 2 minutes long (baby steps people), but go ahead and have a look! Tell me what you think!
