But that is soon to change, as I literally have a million sessions and images to share. Ben has taken on a work contract in Western Australia, which will see him travelling all over, so the kids and I have flown home for a little while, and are back into normal life. He will fly back for Christmas, and then we’ll all head back over west together continuing the Caravan of Destiny Tour spending a little while coming home.

I thought a good way to get back into the blogging routine would be with a ‘What ____ Looks Like” post, so here are some images from the few days we spent in Cape Range National Park in Western Australia. It is the most incredible part of the world, and I’m already dreaming of ways to get back there. Amazing snorkelling and fishing, beautiful clear water, perfect weather. One of the days saw the first good rain we had for the whole trip, in the shape of a short but intense storm, but ended with the most incredible light and clouds!

Caravan of Destiny II http://elhoganphotography.com.au/index.php/caravan-of-destiny-ii/ http://elhoganphotography.com.au/index.php/caravan-of-destiny-ii/#comments Sun, 17 Aug 2014 11:06:58 +0000 http://elhoganphotography.com.au/blog/?p=4928 Every time I sit down to write about this adventure, time and words escape me. I thought I would have all this spare time. I thought I would sit at the end of each week, glass of wine in hand, and write heartfelt, humerous words about all the amazing things we are doing. Spare time I have, but the motivation to sit at my computer I do not. Glasses of wine and cold bottles of beer I have,  but I’m really enjoying the scenery and the conversations I’m having with my family while I’m drinking them. And you should see me reading!!! I’m chewing through books like I did before I had kids!!! I can’t stop!!!! And you know what I haven’t had for the majority of the past month? Internet!!! And its been GLORIOUS!!!!!!

Since we left Lawn Hill National Park (Boodjamulla) in Queensland, we have travelled all the way to Western Australia, where we plan to spend most of our time. We drove a good chunk of The Savannah Way, through the aboriginal community of Doomadgee, to King Ash Bay. We saw huge saltwater crocs eating birds and marvelled at ancient aboriginal rock paintings in Kakadu. We hugged old friends, ate fish and chips on the wharf, and sat alongside a bazillion others to watch the sun set into the ocean at The Mindil Markets in Darwin. We drove through breathtaking scenery to arrive at Lake Argyle, where we found a pool with the worlds greatest view. We bravely took on The Gibb River Road through The Kimberley’s, where we stood underneath waterfalls and on top of great mountains. Finally, we left the red, dirt roads of the Outback, arrived here in Broome, and dove into the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean to wash it all away. Our first month, in a paragraph. I don’t think I do any of it justice with my images, but I hope you can imagine.

I marvel each and every day at the things I am learning about my kids. I thought I knew them inside out, but I’m finding out so much I didn’t know about their ever growing personalities. Their tolerance levels. Their independence. Their love for one another.

Tomorrow we leave our trusty caravan, and head for Cape Leveque with our tent. We have managed not to stick to the main roads as best we can, as we like not to be limited, and see all the out of the way places. Although our van is an off road model, the roads to some places are built just for 4×4’s and need only a tent.

For some reason, these images posted in the wrong order, from most recent to oldest, so you’ll have to start from now and travel back in time I’m afraid. My limited computer skills have prevented me from figuring out the conundrum of how or why. Sorry.

I hope to be a little more regular with photo essays from here on in, but I can’t promise that that glass of wine and killer view, not to mention my family, won’t pull my attentions elsewhere.

That was the idea, after all 😉

If you have any questions at all about how and why we’re doing this trip, or what gear we have and are using, please let me know!

Caravan of Destiny :: Week One & What the first week looks like http://elhoganphotography.com.au/index.php/caravan-of-destiny-week-one/ http://elhoganphotography.com.au/index.php/caravan-of-destiny-week-one/#comments Sun, 20 Jul 2014 10:02:51 +0000 http://elhoganphotography.com.au/blog/?p=4859 Well, we’ve been on the road for a week now, and it hasn’t been without its hiccups, but mostly its been amazing.

We embarked on this adventure for so many reasons, the main one being to spend more time together. Ben and I were sick of trudging through our days, filling them with work and ever increasing, unwanted stress, never spending quality time together as a family. Existing just to wake up each morning and do it all again. We knew something had to change, so we set about changing it.

We left a few weeks later than we wanted to, as I broke my finger and then got terribly sick, so we had to rush through Outback Queensland a little quicker than we wanted to, as we had bookings at Lawn Hill National Park. Thats where we are now, and it is one of the most amazing places I have ever been!

Here’s our first week in images. A week that comprised of ironing out wrinkles, lots and lots of driving, swimming under water falls, canoeing, hiking and Darcy need ing to find/use every public toilet possible over 2000km’s.

Here is a quick video of the sorts of things we’ll be doing. Its very exciting.

This is filmed on an afternoon spent in Lawn Hill National Park on Harry’s Birthday. Not a single soul for miles and miles. A beautiful and spiritual place.

This post is also part of my “What ___ Looks Like” group, so head over to the AMAZING Kelsey Gerhard to see her June!
